VDP1(Video Display Processor 1): Controls sprite (character). In the conventional system, the number of sprites in the horizontal direction is limited, but it can be removed and more sprites (characters) can be displayed.
Also, polygons can be displayed in addition to sprites.
VDP2(Video Display Processor 2): Controls the display of the background screen (= scroll screen) and the display priority. Simultaneous display of the scroll screen has been expanded to a maximum of 5 screens, and the screen can be moved up and down, left and right, and rotated.
SCSP(Saturn Custom Sound Processor): Controls the pronunciation of the PCM / FM sound source. Supports FM sound source of conventional system, and even PCM pronunciation. Also, the sound quality has been raised to the level of CD-D / A (Compact Disc-Digital / Audio).
Cartridge I / F: Connector I / F for cartridges. An area of up to 57MB is prepared.
PAD I/F: Control pad connector I / F. We plan to install two on the main unit.
D / A converter, encoder: Changes the digital sound signal to an analog signal (D / A converter).
In case of color (picture), convert analog RGB to video signal (encoder).
