6.7.3 How to eliminate noise when changing effects
Depending on the type of effect, considerable noise may occur at the moment of switching the effect. In such cases, noise can be avoided by controlling the mixer.
- Prepare a mixer that does not output any effect sound (all 16 channels output level 0).
- Use the “Mixer change (87h)” command to switch to the above mixer.
Now no effect sound is output.
- Use the “Effect change (83h)” command to switch DSP programs.
- Set a time of about 1 second. During this time, other processing may be performed.
Actually, noise is generated here, but since the mixer is closed, no noise is output to the outside. However, the time until the noise disappears varies slightly depending on the sound at that time and the environment such as the size of the DSP program and delay RAM, so adjustments are necessary as necessary.
- Use the “Mixer change (87h)” command to return to the mixer that outputs the conventional effect
However, the effect component is not output for about 1 second when the effect is switched. In addition, at the moment of switching the second mixer above, there may be a slight noise due to a sudden change in volume, but this cannot be avoided. If you want to completely eliminate noise, use the “Total Volume (82h)” command to slowly lower the volume step by step. Sudden changes in volume can cause noise.
However, since it is a total volume, all the sounds will change, so be careful.
