3D Editor User's Manual/2. How to use

■Texture menu

●Texture display

Opens a texture window that displays texture image files (PICT, DGT, RGB).

●Expansion

Enlarges the image in the texture window.

●Reduction

Reduces the image in the texture window.

●Zoom

Display at the specified zoom using the hierarchical menu.

●Grid

A grid will be displayed for each dot when the image is enlarged 4 times or more.

●Cell

Displays a grid for each cell (8 dots).

●Tool palette & scene window

The 3D stereoscopic image is displayed in the scene window as shown below.

Up/down/left/right movement, forward/backward/left/right movement, Y-axis rotation, X-axis rotation, Z-axis rotation, enlargement/reduction, polygon selection, and triangle combination are performed by selecting each tool on the tool palette and dragging the mouse on the scene window. .
The scene window also has a menu for specifying the viewing direction and a menu for displaying each model.

When using the polygon selection tool, you can select multiple polygons by pressing shift + click. This allows you to add material information to multiple selected polygons at once.

The triangle join tool is a tool that joins two adjacent triangles as shown below.
First, move the mouse to the first triangle, hold down the mouse button, and drag over the adjacent polygon. When the mouse moves over the second polygon that can be combined, the two polygons will merge. At the same time, a selection mark will be displayed.
However, if the polygons are not on the same plane, they cannot be combined, so such polygons cannot be selected.
By performing the above operation while holding down the Option key, you can forcibly connect polygons that are not on the same plane and save data by taking advantage of the characteristics of quadrilateral polygons.
However, in this case, you must be careful as accurate 3D information will be lost.

Also, if the selected polygon is a triangle, display duplicate vertices by pressing the Option key + Command ( ) key at the same time.

●Coordinate setting window

When you select a polygon in the scene window by pressing the ctrl key + click, the coordinate setting window will be displayed, and you can change the vertex data ((fine adjustment)).

The closest point of the polygon specified by ctrl key + click is selected as the vertex, but you can arbitrarily select the vertex on the same polygon in the coordinate setting window. Coordinates can be changed by direct numerical input or according to the vertex movement rate in the environment settings.
The changed vertex coordinate data will be confirmed when you select the Set button or another vertex, and the settings will be canceled using the Cancel button. If you want to temporarily check the status while making changes, click the Redraw button.

●Material settings window

Material settings are done in the scene window as shown below.

The polygon selected by the polygon selection tool in the scene window is displayed within a rectangle, and the model name and polygon number to which this polygon belongs are displayed.

The window zoom box allows you to make the window smaller as shown below.

Materials are managed by name. The material set for each polygon is set in the material pop-up menu.
If you change the material contents, it will be reflected on all polygons that have that material set. Each polygon can be switched to any material stored in the file using the material pop-up menu. You can also add new materials and change their names using this pop-up menu.

Material settings will only affect polygons when you click the Confirm button. At this time, the scope of influence changes depending on the item specified in "Apply".

If you click the mouse within the rectangle where the polygon is displayed, you can set the non-texture color of the polygon using the color selector dialog shown below.

You can also set Gouraud colors for polygons in the rectangles shown in (A), (B), (C), and (D) using the same color selector dialog.
However, this color is only used when the ``Use user-specified gouraud'' checkbox is checked.

The level control shown in gray level is the Gouraud offset.
On the ``3D Editor'', the polygon color calculation results are output based on the Gouraud color mentioned above and the offset value set here.

*Gouraud offset setting does not exist as a function of Sega Saturn. Please note that if you use the value set here, you will need to take action at the program level on the actual machine.

Each setting included in the polygon settings is an item that is set for each polygon. The contents set here can be changed for each polygon, regardless of the material settings.
"Change Vertex Order" allows you to change the order of polygon vertices. This function is mainly useful when texture data cannot be set in the desired direction.
If you put an × mark in the "Use transparent color" checkbox in the material settings, the black ($0000) part of the texture data will be displayed transparently.
