VDP2 outputs image signals compatible with NTSC or PAL TVs, 31kHz monitors, and high-definition monitors, depending on the TV screen mode. A TV screen is a collection of rasters consisting of a vertical display period and a vertical blanking period (V blank period), each consisting of a horizontal display period and a horizontal blanking period (H blank period). Figure 2.2 shows the configuration of the TV screen.
The area where the horizontal display period and vertical display period overlap is called the TV system 132 border area, and it is possible to output a black or background screen.
