Tools for Macintosh

SpriteEditor does not generate a list representing sprites and palettes.

Q)
In SpriteEditor, data indicating the relationship between palettes and sprites is not output as text.

A)
This is a specification for the following reasons.

Therefore, if you absolutely need it, please refer to binary output. The format is published on the Nifty support forum.

Is there a tool to create bitmap scroll data?

Q)
I would like to create bitmap data, but it doesn't seem possible with the currently available Map Editor and ScreenEditor. Is there a better way?

A)
When creating bitmap data, use Sprite Editor instead of Map Editor or Screen Editor to create a DGT file, and use DG2TXR etc. to convert it to RGB code in C source format. However, this tool (DG2TXR) can only generate colors in 16 bits, so in the case of a bitmap with 16 million colors, the user has no choice but to create a converter.

When I bring a DXF file created with another tool to 3D Editor, an error occurs.

Q)
When modeling data created with Macintosh modeler is saved in DXF format and imported into 3D Editor, polygons are missing.
Also, when loading a file,

"POLYLINE exists in this DXF file"

A warning message is displayed, but I don't understand what it means.

A)
In general, not all functions that DXF files have can be used with SATURN.
Even in DXF, only descriptions related to polygons can be used in SATURN, so the polyline etc. you pointed out cannot be used.

Therefore, the elaborate functions unique to that modeler may be rejected when brought to SATURN, resulting in problems such as missing polygons.
Also, since DXF does not have normal data, the normal vector is calculated on the 3D Editor, but depending on the orientation of the constituent vectors, it may be reversed.

How is 24-bit color PICT data processed when imported into MapEditor?

Q)
How is the 24bitRGB color in the PICT file data (source) converted when it is read into Map Editor, etc.?

Also, is it possible to perform the following processing on Map Editor?

A)
Since MapEditor and ScreenEditor cannot have a 32-bit color palette, 24-bit color data is created by right-shifting each RGB component by 3 bits to create 16-bit color data.

Use ScreenEditor to create 1×1 cell BG data, and MapEditor to create 2×2 cell BG data.

2D Viewer becomes unstable.

Q)
I can use the 2D Viewer that supports CartDev, but when I display large pictures (128 x 128 or more?) or multiple pictures and try to use functions such as translucency, SCSI access becomes extremely slow. , the respective functions will no longer work. Also, when using SEGA Painter or Quick Viewer, this happens frequently (about once every two hours).

"The target may have gone out of control."

will be displayed and it will stop.

A)
This is by design. Macintosh SCSI is often weaker than that of other models, and frequent SCSI requests may cause malfunctions.
Therefore, such symptoms may occur in cases such as this question.

It seems that the formats of Shade3's SEGA3D data and 3D Editor's SEGA3D data are different.

Q)
It seems that the SEGA3D format created with Shade III for SEGA SATURN and the SEGA3D format created with 3D Editor are different.

A)
Please load the SEGA3D format created with Shade III using 3D Editor and save it again.

When setting material in 32000 color mode, black is missing.

Q)
When setting material in 32000 color mode, black is missing.

A)
In this mode,

( R, G, B ) = ( 0, 0, 0 )

This is because the data is treated as unconditionally transparent.

Is the parent-child structure not guaranteed in the DXF format?

Q)
Is it not possible to guarantee parent-child relationship information in the DXF file format?

A)
Basically, DXF files do not have a format that shows the parent-child structure of objects. Therefore, you must take this into consideration when importing DXF data. Naturally, DXF does not have any descriptions regarding animation, so it is not possible to import animation data.

When I monitor the anime on SATURN with SegaPainter, the pattern jumps at the end.

Q)
When I tried to check the animation on the monitor using Sega Painter's animation function, the animation pattern at the end skipped. Could I ask the reason?

A)
Since all the graphic data used for animation is transferred to CartDev + DevSaturn in advance, the above phenomenon will occur if the data exceeds the data capacity that can be handled (VDP1 VRAM 512KB). In this case, you will need to perform operations such as reducing the size of the object or reducing the number of animation patterns.

I am using SegaPainter and cannot use the animation function.

Q)
I am using Sega Painter and cannot use the animation feature.

A)
Please check if CartDev + DevSaturn or graphics box is connected. Animation features require CartDev + DevSaturn or a graphics box.

If Drag Lib is missing, an error will occur and the tool will not start.

Q)
When I try to start Sega Painter

"Drag Lib is missing"

An error message appears and the application does not start.

A)
This seems to be because "Macintosh Drag & Drop" and "Clipping function extension" are not available. Please install Kanji Talk7.5 or later.

Application hangs.

Q)
Macintosh freezes or forcibly closes due to an error when using an application.
Or the application doesn't work (some kind of error message appears).

A)
The application may hang up in any of the following cases.
please confirm.

  1. Are you using Kanji Talk7.1? Please use 7.5 or later.

  2. You may be allocating less memory to your application.
Please increase the "Used Size" in the "Memory Requirements" item.

  3. Are you running multiple applications at once?
There will be a memory shortage, so please reduce the number of applications that are running at the same time.

  4. Are Norton utilities, AfterDark, etc. installed?
Please remove the resident software and restart your Mac.

  5. There may be a conflict in the ``System Extensions'' in the ``Extensions Folder'', which may cause the app to not work.
Please remove the item that is causing the conflict or change the loading order.
