SOFT IMAGE

I want to create data for high resolution mode.

Q)
I want to create model data for high resolution, but how do I create it in SGL format?

A)
Currently, the only texture data color mode supported by SOFTIMAGE is RGB mode with 32000 colors. On the other hand, when using high resolution mode, the texture can only have 8 bits per dot, so RGB cannot be specified. Therefore, when using the high-resolution mode screen, it is not possible to perform all operations only on SOFTIMAGE. What do you actually do? It is necessary to paste the DGT data written in a number of colors such as 256 colors to the model created with SOFTIMAGE using "SMAP" provided by Sega, and create it using a command such as slcon -cm 256 -f filename.

I want to set a transparent color to the texture with SOFTIMAGE.

Q)
I tried to create a textured polygon with transparent color using SOFTIMAGE 3D, but I can't seem to figure it out. How can I set the transparent color?

A)
Unfortunately, the current version of Saturn Export does not allow setting transparent colors. Please configure via a tool such as SMAP.

I want to treat multiple models as one model with SOFTIMAGE.

Q)
If you create a single object by combining multiple polygons (grids), the shape data will inevitably be expressed in a hierarchical structure. Hierarchy causes push and pop of matrix data, which wastes processing time, so if possible, I would like to have the shapes in the same hierarchy, but what should I do?

A)
We use a feature called merging models. After selecting all the models you want to combine into one (in Multi Select mode), select MARGE from the Effect menu of the Models module and set the parameters in the dialog. A new merged model will be generated. However, in this case, all models to be merged must be in contact (or close).
In other cases, you can prevent loss of Push/Pop processing time by executing slPutPolygon (number of configured models) multiple times in slPushMatrix ~ slPopMatrix.

I want to set the material for each polygon with SOFTIMAGE.

Q)
Even if I transform a Cube, etc., it becomes the same material and I can't seem to set a different texture, which is a problem. Is there a way to set material for each polygon?

A)
If you hold down the [G] key and click the mouse button, the polygon will turn red and be selected. In this state, select Assign New Material from the Polygon menu in the Matter module. The same material setting screen as when you select the Material menu will appear, so set the material here. Please be sure to set the global material before setting the local material. (Otherwise, local material settings will be disabled.)

I want to edit data created with SOFTIMAGE using 3D Editor, etc.

Q)
I would like to edit a model created with SOFTIMEGE 3D, such as adding textures, using SEGA 3D Editor (Mac). Is this possible? If it is possible to edit it, could you please tell me in detail how to do it?

A)
Convert the model created with SOFTIMEGE 3D to a .dxf file using the standalone soft2dxf command. After converting this .dxf file, such as converting line feed codes (this may be done automatically on the Mac), load it into the 3D Editor.

The usage of SGL's TUTORIAL and the current SOFTIMAGE is quite different.

Q)
I'm creating a model with SOFTIMAGE while watching SGL's TUTORIAL, but I'm having a lot of trouble because the contents of the TUTORIAL and the actual operations are different.

A)
SOFTIMAGE in the TUTORIAL explanation is written based on the version called Ver. 2.66c. However, the latest SOFTIMAGE version is Ver. 3.51, so there are a lot of differences in details. A Japanese manual based on SOFTIMAGE 3.0 is sold for a fee by companies such as Ado Electronics. Basically, there are only a few differences between 3.0 and 3.51, so this manual should cover everything you need to know.
Also, SATURN-related processing is different between TUTORIAL and the current version. The manual says to use SMAP, but now you can use custom effects such as Saturn Export, Saturn Import, and Saturn Viewer in the Tools module, so these tools are sufficient except for special purposes.

I would like to set up sharing of texture data.

Q)
I would like to share texture data with SOFTIMAGE, but as far as I can see from the data output by Saturn Export, it is not possible to share it correctly.
Is it not possible to share texture data with SOFTIMAGE?
Also, if it is possible, please tell me how.

A)
If you want to share textures with SOFTIMAGE, simply pasting the same texture will not share the textures. To actually share it, use the Paint menu of the Material module.
Here, copy the texture you want to share to Clipboard, and paste the texture in this Clipboard where you want to share it. Another thing to note is that texture repeat specifications and range selection specifications in the Texture menu dialog (2D Local, 2D Global) are not reflected in Saturn Export. In that case, please set it in the Paint menu as well.

Texture division is not working properly.

Q)
I would like to paste a texture to multiple polygons using SOFTIMAGE and extract the texture data divided for each polygon, but it doesn't work. Is there anything I need to configure?

A)
With the current SOFTIMAGE, when setting materials to multiple polygons, textures are assigned to the materials.
When UV editing is done using the Matter module's Paint menu, only the changed textures are generated separately.
Therefore, such operations cannot be performed within SOFTIMAGE, but I think that by using Saturn Import, which comes with SOFTIMAGE Ver. 3.5x, such requirements can be met to some extent.

First, Saturn Export the desired model. Next, import the exported data using Saturn Import. Save this data as Scene data or Model data. However, please be aware that bone information and motion information may not be restored accurately.
