■File” menu
- Performs file management such as file input and output. Processing such as termination is also executed from this menu.
- ◆New
- Create a new file.

- color mode
Select a color mode for new files. - size
Enter the width and height of the new file. The unit is page.
Page: One page is an area of 512 x 512 pixels (32 x 32 characters).
- ◆Open
- Open an already saved file. If the file is already open, it will be automatically closed. (Only one map file can be edited with "Map Editor.")
- ◆Save
- Save the file you are currently working on.
- ◆Save as another name
- Give the file you are currently working on a name and save it as a separate file.
When saving to an SGL file , you need to optionally set various flags. - ◆Import
- Open the 2D image data that will be the material of the character data and display the image window.
[Dialog] (Displayed when the color mode is 256 colors)
- scroll bar
Specifies the palette to be assigned to the image window. - Overwrite
If checked, places the color table held by the image into the specified palette.
- ◆1~4
- Four files will be displayed in order from the most recently opened or saved files.

- Exit "Map Editor".
■“Edit” menu
- Edit images such as cutting and pasting. You can also set the work environment for using "Map Editor" here.
- ◆Restore
- Cancels the previous operation. Please note that some functions cannot be canceled.
- ◆Cut out
- Cuts the selected range of data. The cut data is stored on the clipboard.
Data cut from the character window and map window can also be used as array information for the "Tile" tool. - ◆Copy
- Copy the selected range of data. The copied data is stored on the clipboard.
Data copied from the character window and map window can also be used as array information for the "Tile" tool. - ◆Paste
- Pastes the data stored in the clipboard onto the data you are currently working on. Immediately after pasting, the data is in a movable state (floating state).
The "Paste" function is also valid between windows that have a reserved relationship.- Example: "Image window" → "Character window"
Paste the pixel information of the image data as character data.- "Character window" → "Map window"
Paste the character data array information as map information. - ◆Delete
- Erases the data in the selected range.
- ◆Select all
- Select the entire active window.
- ◆Deselect
- Deselects the active window. Floating data is determined to the current position.
- ◆Tools
- Each submenu corresponds to a button in the toolbox.
- ◆Properties
- Configure various environment settings.

Specifies the color of the map window grid. - character window
Specifies the color of the grid in the character window. - image window
Specifies the color of the image window grid.
■"Display" menu
- Change the display magnification of the window you are working on and show/hide the toolbox. Target display processing compatible with "SS Monitor/SS Viewer" is also performed here.
- ◆Magnification
- Enlarges the currently working window at the specified magnification.
- ◆Grid
- Show/hide the character grid in the currently working window.
The character window also displays a grid in units of banks (1Mbit).
The map window also displays a grid of pages. - ◆Tool box
- Show/hide the toolbox.
- ◆Target display
- Display the file you are currently working on on the target. To use this feature, "SS Monitor" must be started and "SS Viewer" must be running in advance.

Select the type of scrolling you want to display.
- normal scroll
Display with normal scrolling. The top and bottom and left and right sides of the map are displayed connected. - Rotating scroll (1x1)
Displays a rotating scroll screen where the first 1x1 plane map constitutes the floor, and the next 1x1 plane unit constitutes the sky. The floor can be rotated on 3 axes. - Rotating scroll (4x4)
Displays a rotating scroll screen where the first 4x4 plane map constitutes the floor, and the next 1x1 plane unit constitutes the sky. The floor can be rotated on 3 axes. - detail

- If you want to save files in SGL format or display them on a target, you need to set the VDP2 flag accordingly. For details on each flag, please refer to the "SEGA Saturn Hardware Manual".

Specify the plain size (in pages). If the map size (in page units) is not divisible by the plane unit, that plane size cannot be selected. - character control data
Specify the data size of pattern name data. - Character number auxiliary mode
If the character control data is 1 word, specify the number of bits allocated to the character number.
- ●“Screen overflow processing”
Select the display processing method for areas outside the rotating scroll display area (4 x 4 plane units) that make up the floor.
- transparent
Everything outside the area will be displayed transparently. - repetition
Outside the area, the map within the display area will be displayed repeatedly. - Within 512 x 512 dots
Everything outside the 512 dots x 512 dots area will be displayed transparently. - specified character
Repeats the character specified by index.
■“Character” menu
- Can be used when the character window is active. Edit the character data of the selected range or the entire window.
- ◆Reverse
- Flips the specified range of characters symmetrically around the center of the selection.
- Lateral direction
Flip horizontally. - Longitudinal direction
Flip vertically.
- ◆Rotation
- Rotates the specified range of characters around the center of the selection. After the rotation process, the characters in the selection will be in a floating state.
- 90 degrees clockwise
Rotate 90 degrees clockwise. - 90 degrees counterclockwise
Rotate 90 degrees counterclockwise.
- ◆Display palette
- Select the color table to use for character window display from the color palette.
Note that the palette set here does not affect the character palette information of the output file. It aims to improve editing efficiency based on intuitive visual effects. - ◆Palette
- Specifies the palette number to use for display.

- ◆Character sort
- Merges the same character data that exists within the selection range and sorts it in order from the top. The map data will change to reflect the sort results. It is mainly used for the purpose of deleting unnecessary character data and keeping the amount of data within a limited range.
- ◆Offset
- Moves the characters within the selection by the specified amount. The map data will change to reflect the movement results.

■“Map” menu
- Can be used when the map window is active. Edit map data for a selection or the entire window. You can also perform operations such as setting and changing the color palette here.
- ◆Horizontal flip
- Sets the H inversion flag for the specified range of map data.
- ◆Vertical flip
- Sets the V inversion flag for the specified range of map data.
- ◆Palette
- Set the palette number of the map data in the specified range.

- Change the editing area of the map window.

- Horizontal size
Specify the horizontal size of the changed map in page units. - Vertical size
Specify the horizontal size of the changed map in page units.

- Change or edit the color palette.

Changes the color data at the specified position. - scroll bar
Changes the index of the palette to be edited.

- Changes the color balance of the currently displayed palette.

- Changes the color of the currently displayed palette.

- Move or copy the currently displayed palette.

Cut out the pallet. The cut out palette is filled with black code. - copy
Copy the palette. The copied palette remains as is. - pasting
Paste the "cut" or "copied" palette in advance. - delete
Delete palette. The deletion palette is filled with black code.
■ “Window” menu
- Displays the type and name of the window currently displayed on the screen. It also determines how each window will be arranged.
- ◆Display overlapping
- Stack the windows starting from the top left.
- ◆Display vertically
- Display all windows vertically.
- ◆Display side by side
- Display all windows side by side.
- ◆Arranging icons
- Arrange all minimized (iconized) windows.
■“Help” menu
- Displays a help file that explains how to use Map Editor. Also displays the information of "Map Editor".
- ◆Table of contents
- Displays the table of contents of the help file.
- ◆Version information
- Displays information such as the version of "Map Editor".
