■CD emulation system configuration and functional overview
Figure 1 shows the configuration of the CD-ROM emulation system.
Figure-1. System configuration
CD emulation system:
It consists of a virtual CD and a target box. This is a system that emulates the operation of software, tests it, and plays the created write-once disc to confirm operation.
Virtual CD (VCD):
One of the components of the CD emulation system, it reads data from MS-DOS files on the local hard disk or network and performs emulation according to commands from the CD block. It consists of a PC compatible machine and VCD I/F board as hardware, and a CD emulator as application software.
CD block:
One of the elements that make up the CD emulation system, it is located between the virtual CD and the main system, and is a hardware that accepts input from the target box, sends commands to PC compatible machines, and handles data from PC compatible machines. Collectively refers to software and firmware.
VCD I/F board:
Insert into the expansion slot of a PC compatible machine to interface between the CD block and the PC.
■About this manual
This manual consists of two parts: one for setting up the virtual CD system and one for the CD emulation software.
The setup section describes how to install on a PC compatible machine. In addition, the CD emulation software edition describes the procedures necessary to perform emulation work.
Installing the VCD I/F board on a PC compatible machine requires basic knowledge about PC compatible machines. Additionally, when running CD emulation software, knowledge of MS-DOS program execution and basic knowledge of CD-ROM standards are required.
