■About the classification of Sega Saturn development tools

Currently, the categories and names of Sega Saturn development tools are defined as follows. Future releases of tools will be introduced according to the following categories:

●Free lending tools
A tool that is owned by SEGA and is allowed to be used based on a loan agreement. SEGA production tools, GNU tools, manuals, etc. It is distributed free of charge (on loan) to SEGA licensees by Technical Support. Support from SEGA is essential.

→ SGL Tool Kit, Graphic & Sound Tools, SBL Rel6.0, SSSDK, Hitachi SH Tools

●SEGA License Tool
A tool that SEGA receives a license from an external vendor and distributes to SEGA licensees.
Sega essentially has exclusive sales rights (distribution rights) for the Saturn. Support from SEGA is essential. There are two types below.

  1. Types that require royalties/notation obligations → TrueMotion, Cinepak, QSound, YSound
  2. Type where only notation is required → CyberSound

●Official tools
It is literally a tool officially recognized by Sega as a development tool. SEGA will be the point of contact for full support, but will also work closely with sales companies and vendors to provide user support. We will actively recommend it at technical briefings sponsored by SEGA.

→ SNASM, CartDev, PRG-BOX, VCD-System, CDE-100, Mirage, SOFTIMAGE, etc.

●Compatible tools
As a Saturn development tool, it was determined that there would be no problems in terms of technology and support, and the tool was manufactured by an external vendor. SEGA licenses licensees to use libraries or data formats provided by SEGA. Support responsibility rests with the sales company/vendor. Sega's support is limited to areas related to Sega-provided libraries and data formats.

●Others
FontWorks
→Character font that can be used in Sega Saturn titles by purchasing it.
The terms of the license are strictly defined in the agreement between the Sega licensee and FontWorks. Must be indicated.

that's all
